What is it?
Radon exposure increases the risk of contracting lung cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Surgeon General of the United States have identified Radon as the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. There are no overt symptoms. Radon is not like toxins, viruses or pollen. You cannot see, smell or taste Radon. If you are experiencing headaches, nausea or other symptoms, the cause is something other than Radon. Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from a natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rocks. The gas moves through the earth and enters buildings through cracks and/or holes in the foundations, floors and basements. Radon can be found in almost all areas throughout the country at various concentrations. All homes have some level of Radon. The purpose of testing a house for Radon is to make sure there are no elevated levels of Radon present.
